|
|
Location: Manastash - Buck Meadows - Cle Elum - Ellensburg - Yakima
When: May 28th - May 30th 2004
Updates:
4/24/04 Weather is still great! I am looking forward to my trip on April 27th. I wanted to have new tires on my Ford before then but no luck. I will go up there with bald tires... and hope I don't get stuck. There is supposed to be a KIMA (Yakima) TV reporter going with me on the run. We have been emailing back & forth. I will let you know if/how that turns out. LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO GO WITH ME ON APRIL 27th.
4/10/04 Great weather lately! I am looking forward to the April 27th run & then on to the Memorial Day run.
Remember to let me know if you are thinking about coming up. I have some little giveaways & stuff that I am thinking about doing but I need to know how many people are planning on showing up.
3/12/04 Wow! The weather has been great these last few days. Most of the snow has melted around my house and if this great weather keeps up we should have perfect trail conditions for Memorial Day Weekend.
I will be making a trip up to Riders Camp on April 27th to get an idea how the trails will be. You are welcome to come along if you want. Reply to this post if you are interested.
Just in case: Make sure to come prepared with plenty of warm clothing.
Please reply to this post to let me know you are coming or at least thinking about coming. Also: Choose the Notify me when a reply is posted and you will be notified when I make updates.
May 28th - May 30th 2004 No Fees to join us.
Terrain: Mixture of SNOW, rocks, dirt/mud, etc. Everyone welcome. All rig types welcome. Bring the whole family. There are tons of trails ranging from EZ to HARD. This get together is non-formal and is open to anyone. The types of rigs are usually Jeeps, Broncos, Land Cruisers, etc. There is always the possibility of scratching or denting your rig on any trail. Please don't bring your rig if you have issues with scratches or dents.
Tons of excellent camp sites. Most have bathroom facilities. No advance reservations and you will need to purchase a NW Forest Pass. Go here: NW FOREST PASS
http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/wenatchee/news/newsmain.htm Camp sites are first come first serve. Depending on the winter it may still be cold at night. Plan to bring warm clothing. Because this is an informal get together: You are responsible for your-self and your-guests. In other words: You need to bring everything for you & your guests. There will not be any food or supplies provided. Plans are to run at least one HARD to Very HARD trail and one EASY trail. Plans are subject to change depending on the amount of vehicles & types of vehicles that show up. You are more than welcome to explore on your own too. There is a lot of terrain to explore. For those of you familiar with the area we will be in the Buck Meadows area.
NOTE: NO MUDDING ALLOWED!!! Everyone needs to stay in the trail system. Please DO NOT come if you cannot follow basic rules. Forest Service fines range from $100 - $5000.
** You are responsible for you & your guests safety at all times. Ride, camp, and play at your own risk. **

Hi Benjitis,
The amount of people varies each year.
I would estimate that anywhere between 8-16 people & 5-10 vehicles show up each year.
In 1996 there were about 30 people & 15 or so vehicles. It was a very hot & dry Memorial Day Weekend so more people decided to come up.
It's always a blast and I always meet someone new every year.
Go here for pics of past Memorial Day Runs:

You and your club are more than welcome to join us. It's an informal run but we always come up with something fun to do.
Thanks,
Ron Dunn Jr

| Actually I live over on the other side of the mountains (olympia). I figured it'd be fun to drive over and bring the family and do a little off roading. I just got my 87 Ford Ranger a couple months ago and I'm interested to see how far I can push it. |

UGH! I went up to the Manastash by myself on April 27th and got stuck! I had to walk out 13 miles... I got rained on & snowed on!
It was a crazy day that ended at 2AM the next morning.
I have tons of pics and more details coming.
Stay tuned.

Here's a pic showing my driver's side of my truck resting on a big tree...
That hurt! Sad thing is... it didn't stop scraping until it got to the front tire.
It's tough to see but this picture is of the snow storm that hit me while I was walking out...
Here is a picture of Gun Powder sitting near the entrance of the cave we were in while waiting out the storm...

I'm slowly getting the Land Cruiser back together.
Why does it always take longer than you expect?
Weather has been great. I'm getting more & more excited about Memorial Day.

05/20/04 weather update:
weather.com says that Memorial Day weekend should be sunny with chance of clouds. Mid 70's during the day.
I know it's too soon to know for sure but I'm hoping they are right.
The weather in Cle Elum has been ugly these last few days. Hopefully mother nature is getting it out of her system now and will give us a nice Memorial Day weekend.
Hope to see you all there!

So much to do... so little time left.
I'm still waiting for the Roller Fairlead from Mile Marker, I have to do a complete tune up as the Cruiser isn't running so well, I have to install my CB, pack the camper, go food shopping, find my spare parts, ahhh...
Wanted: Slave for about 3 days. Requires heavy lifting and long hours. Apply by replying to this post. Note: NO PAY! All monies are going towards $2.50 per gallon gasoline and food requirements.
05/24/04 weather update:
The weather yesterday was nasty. It looks great today. Still a few more days until the official "weekend" so who knows what the weather will be like.
weather.com says: Rain for Thursday & Friday... partly cloudy for Saturday, Sunday & Monday. BUT: This is the forecast for Ellensburg so it's very possible that it will be much nicer in the Manastash.
Anyways... rain equals MUD!!!
Remember to stay on the designated trails or we risk loosing the land to play on.
NOTE: to anyone that gets an older camper and tries to put it on a Ford Super Duty: They don't fit. I borrowed a 1968 (?) camper from a buddy and it's tight. The bed rails on the truck are extra wide and the camper has a certain spot the bed rails are suppsed to set in... well it's close but not perfect.
I will try one more update before I head up. CYA all there!
- Ron
